Well, it just so happens that aside from having some family there, the owner likes Hawaiian music, especially slack key guitar instrumentals and usually is building something with an island collection of music playing in the background. Hanalei Moon was a piece that was and is still played at local luaus on the Big Island and elsewhere. Hang Loose!

J. Christian Steinert has degrees in chemistry and mechanical engineering with 30+ years experience in R&D and manufacturing. A lifelong woodworker and musician, he has been in lutherie since 2001 and founded Hanalei Moon in 2003 with the intent of providing top quality parts and custom instruments for those not interested in machine made production articles. Musical instruments are very personal items which deserve personalized human treatment. And that is the primary offering of this enterprise.
